1. Hand, foot, mouth disease. I had never heard of this lovely illness until Jake was sent home from daycare for three days with it. Three days!*
2. Pink eye. Need I say more?
3. Actually, yes I do.
4. Jake's pink eye.
5. Sophia's pink eye.
6. And finally my own case of pink eye.
7. Fevers.
8. The kind that are legitimate and the kind that accompany teething. Daycare does not differentiate between the two, but I do!
9. Diarrhea. Due to teething.
10. Diaper rash from the diarrhea from teething.
11. Using up half of my allotted sick leave in a matter of two weeks.
12. Using up more sick leave for myself.
13. Coughing so hard that I throw up a little.
14. The smell of Vick's.
15. Running out of Kleenex.
16. Canceling the housekeeper's first day since half the members of this household were home.
17. Glaring at the heavy layer of dust encasing this home and all possessions that reside here, knowing it will be two more weeks before she is able to come back.
18. Hoping we aren't discovered two weeks from now like the residents of Pompeii after Mt. Vesuvius erupted.
19. Piles of used tissue. Piles.
20. The looming fear that once we all return to good health we will get another mid-day phone call reinforcing the fact that health was a mere illusion and one of the kids is again ill.
21. The fact that spring break is still a month away. A whole month!
22. The fact that summer vacation is still three months away. Three months!
23. The fact that coming up with 29 reasons to hate February has been surprisingly easy.
24. Surprisingly easy.
25. Why does this year have to be a leap year? This could be the final wretched day of this wretched month.
26. But no. It continues to haunt me. Baiting me almost as if to say, "You might be home from work again tomorrow, Emily, because tomorrow is still February!"
27. The need to calculate how many remaining hours of paid leave I still possess versus how many calendar days are left in the school year.
28. Sneezing so hard my brain bounces around inside my skull.
29. Sore throats. Sinus pressure. Chapped lips and raw noses. And tears. Lots of tears.
***Please note, Dear Reader, that Mark also took his fair share of time away from work. He has been incredibly helpful!

Sorry it's been so rough. Hope you are all feeling better soon.
I hate February too. Mostly because I hate to be cold, and my belief is that cold weather should confine itself to the end of December. I hope everyone is better and that March is infinitely kinder to you.
Loved the image of being found like the residents of Pompeii.
January is my least favorite month but your dad also dislikes February.
Hopefully March will be better for all of you - and how could it not? Grandma's coming!
