Going Private

The time has come to set the ol' blog to "private". Some of you on my blog roll have the private setting, so let me ask this: how did you get the 'older' folks, who may or may not struggle with technology, to figure out how to sign in?

I realize one doesn't actually have to have a google account to log in, but I will need to send out very clear instructions when I change the blog setting. Hints? Suggestions?

I will feel less paranoid by going private and more in control of who is allowed to read my oh, so interesting thoughts :) After all, I'm a teacher in a small town. I certainly don't want/need anything I type here coming back to haunt me later....or Mark, who is also a teacher in a small town. No blog stalkers for us, thank you very much.

You will have to relay how to set it to private and how to tell people how to get to it...I'd prefer mine be on private too!

A blog I follow recently went private. She had a great idea: she created a new, separate public blog whose posts just announced that she had written a post, and linked to the private post. Click on the link and you have to sign in -- unless you're already signed in, then google remembers. Anyway, one nice thing about this is it still works with google reader. I forget to check private blogs for new posts, but google reader tells me anytime there are updates on public blogs.

I have no idea, of course, but it better be simple - like I just have to click onto my icon like I do now!
