Unexpected Plans

The plan for yesterday (Saturday) was as follows: Wake up early (be on the road by 7:30). Drive to Portland with mom and luggage in tow. Immerse myself if the state's only Babies R Us. Think about what we want to register for, what we still need, etc. Love everything about becoming a mommy. Take Mom to airport. Cry because she's going home. Drive back home. Do school work since the last day of class is Sunday. Beam with joy at our new room and little clothes hanging in the closet.

The actuality of yesterday (Saturday): Woke up at 2:45 with intense pain/cramping. Wait for 30 minutes to see if things get better. Wake Mark up. Cry. Try heating pad. Cry. Try drinking more fluids. Cry. Try getting comfortable. Cry. Say some prayers together. Cry. Have Mark rub my back. Cry. Deny Mark's requests to call the doctor-not really sure why, but in denial that anything is going wrong. Fall asleep, wake up at 7am. Decide to call doctor since pain is still there. Sent to Family Birth Center at the hospital. Worry about how we're going to possibly get Mom to her flight. Stay at hospital (but in my own private room) for 3 hours while they test urine and blood. Pray some more. Hook me up to a machine to hear baby's heartbeat. ALL IS FINE WITH BABY- in fact, he was kicking and wriggling around the entire time. :) Urine results are inconclusive, blood results show infection (kidney or UTI, but I believe it to be kidney). Get one antibiotic since nurse knows we're trying to make a flight. Prescription is called in to pick up when we get home, pharmacy closes early on Saturday night and there will be no stop at Babies R Us. Get Mom to the airport. Stay with Mom for a bit before she needs to go through security. Cry a little (as originally planned) because she is gone now. Drive home with my wonderful husband. Get into town an hour before the pharmacy closes. Wonder why all the traffic lights in town aren't working. Pull up at the pharmacy to discover that the whole city is out of power and their registers of course don't work without power. Call hospital to see what to do. Finally find a pharmacy on the other side of town with power. Call hospital again to have them transfer prescription. Pick up prescription. Go home. Crash on the couch in exhaustion. Say a prayer of thanks together that everything worked out despite the many hurdles in our path. Wonder if we are cursed....

Need I say more?

Don't think there are any spells on you - it's just part of life that everything isn't always simple.

I made the flight and you got home safe and got your medicine - what could be better than that (oh - the fact that I had no makeup on or hair combed didn't seem to scare anyone off the plane)

Hope you are feeling better. See you in three weeks - yeah- beach time!

So glad everything is ok. No, doesn't sound like you are cursed, but that you are very blessed. I'm so glad the blog post had a very happy ending. We will keep you in our prayers.

I agree with "Rockbiter." Everything is okay with the baby, and so you are very blessed. I know, though, how real and horrible that fear is that something is wrong. I'm glad that in your case everything is okay (other than a yucky infection). I'll also keep you in my prayers.

Will you e-mail me your address? camiann78@netscape.net

Thanks!

My neighbor here gets kidney infections with every pregnancy. I just hope that it doesn't turn into kidney stones. I hear that's painful. Glad you got to hang with your Mom for a while.
