The Nice and the not so Nice

The Nice:
I walked into my first period class yesterday which happens to be an inclusion language arts class. This is taught by Mr. Olson, and I'm in there to provide support to 11 different students on IEPs for reading and/or writing. Anyhow, when I came in, all the students started clapping. Mr. Olson announced we were having a mini baby shower for me, and that they've had this planned for a little while! In the back of the room was a cake, soda, and presents. They had a chair for me to sit in, and any student who made a card came to give it to me. Then, those who brought presents were allowed to bring them to me. Two girls, who aren't on IEPs and technically aren't "my" students gave me their packages which were cute little outfits. Then, Dylan, one of my students brought me a HUGE gift bag. He was so excited, but nervous. He was giggling, making funny statements, etc. but was dying for me to open the bag. I couldn't believe what was in it. His mom made Jake a quilt! It is so cute! It's a flannel rag quilt and is navy blue and red- it matches our bedding perfectly. Another one of my students gave us a couple of stuffed animals. Mr. Olson started cutting the cake and we all enjoyed the treat.
I was so surprised and overwhelmed. They made me tear up...I had no idea they had been planning this for me, and I'm surprised they were all able to keep it a secret!!

The not so Nice:
Yesterday was my last official day at work....according to the doctor. I am at home on partial bed rest. I can get up every hour, but only for an hour and then I have to rest. This is in attempts to lower my levels of protein in my urine and increase my level of lipase. I only have 9 more days until Jake is scheduled to be here, but he may come before then depending on my next test results. I have to collect a 24 hour urine sample (I've been provided with a large jug) and have more blood drawn. Actually, I had to do this same test last week- which is how they know I have too much protein and not enough lipase. Anyhow, I'll take my jug-o-pee back on Monday morning, get the results Tuesday at my pre-op appointment, and listen to what they have to say. If the results are again abnormal, they will take Jake. If the levels are better, I should be able to wait until the 15th.
Now I realize that the amount of time I am on bed rest is not very long. However, it is the end of the school year, and as a teacher, it is frustrating to be gone. I have my assistant and substitute packing up most of my room, but I still have a few files to finalize and grades to enter before I can officially be done. I've worked on two of the files today at home during my allowed time up. Mark will help me with grades over the weekend, and I'll bring my last file home then. I want to be completely done with all work by Monday evening. This way I can truly relax for a short time before Jake is here.

The Nice (Again):
I can't believe I'm within a few days of becoming a Mommy!
