A Small Thanksgiving

We celebrated this year with just 3 of us. Mark and I had his mother come over for a nice, quiet Thanksgiving dinner. We used our fancy china, had a clean house (thank you Mark!), and all of the trimmings. I even made a pumpkin pie from real pumpkin...not a can. How Martha Stewart of me! (Thank you Stacey!)

It's funny to think about all of the preparation that goes into a holiday meal be it for 3 people or 13. There's the menu planning time, grocery shopping time, house cleaning time, meal prep time, meal cooking time, table setting time, and clean up time. Several hours go into a feast that takes approximately 45 minutes to eat! It's worth it though....especially for those leftovers!

I'm surprised that I was able to pull this all off with the little amount of energy I've had lately. (I can't wait until trimester #1 is over...I keep hearing that my energy level will go up in the 2nd trimester). I know that Mark's efforts into cleaning the house saved me and allowed me to only concentrate on the food. I was so very thankful for his efforts and willingness to help. In return, he was thankful for our delicious meal and for the fact that I did not get stressed out for this holiday, which is a first!

I missed my family this year and the buzz of a house full of people. It was hard to know they were all (most all of them) together without us. It helped to talk with them and at least visit. It was especially nice to visit with my brother.
Happy Thanksgiving All!

I agree that there's so much prep work in Thanksgiving, but you're right, the leftovers are worth it. It makes me appreciate my Mom and Grandma's more. Glad you had a fun day. I too missed my family. Do you get to see them for Xmas?
